Kalimba Sounds from Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus
17 perfectly harmonizing notes allow even beginners to create unique compositions on the kalimba. The African sapele wood body produces bright and clear tones. Even in the middle and lower registers, the warmth and fullness of the sound remain particularly present. By gently plucking the metal tines with your thumbs, melodies in C major resound, playfully soothing the soul.
Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus is the place to go for all culture lovers in the heart of Berlin. On five floors, there are not only books, but also music and music accessories to discover: from sheet music, CDs and vinyl to instruments that are as unusual as they are beginner-friendly.

“THE MESSIAH”, “James’ Choice” and “Im Gegenwärtigen Vergangenes“ at the Komische Oper Berlin
„THE MESSIAH“
The oratorio focuses entirely on the contemplative character of the Old and New Testament verses that librettist Charles Jennens selected for the text. Director Damiano Michieletto joins forces with choral soloists from the Komische Oper Berlin—along with several hundred singers from choirs across Berlin—coming together in creating a powerful plea for hope.
“James’ Choice”
A New Yorker by birth and a Berliner by choice, Music Director James Gaffigan kicks off the new season with works by European composers Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Kurt Weill, who found a new artistic home on American shores after fleeing Europe in the early 1930s because of their Jewish roots.
“Im Gegenwärtigen Vergangenes” (The Past within the Present)
In our chamber concert series, musicians of the Komische Oper Berlin present intense listening experiences in very special locations: from the festive elegance of the Schiller Theatre to the monumental expanse of the old hangar at Tempelhof Airport, from uncharted soundscapes at the Kindl compound to magical evenings inside a big tent.
THE MESSIAH, 10/4/2024, 7 p.m. at Hangar 4
James’ Choice, 10/31/2024, 8 p.m. at the Konzerthaus, Main Hall
Im Gegenwärtigen Vergangenes, 11/4/2024, 7:30 p.m. at Schillertheater, Foyer
