Chamber music on a laptop? The ni-va Ensemble from Argentina brings it to Berlin. This live digital music project was founded by students on the Electroacoustic Composition programme at the National University of the Arts (UNA) in Buenos Aires. The ensemble focuses on exploring sound in real time. Their live improvisations combine various approaches to electroacoustic music, including acousmatics and musique concrète.
At FUTURE NOW Musical Diaries, the four-piece laptop ensemble from Buenos Aires presents an electroacoustic improvisation in four acts. To achieve this, they use synthesizers, sampling techniques, virtual instruments as well as self-programmed sounds and algorithms. The ensemble creates dense sonic spaces in which electronic, recorded and seemingly familiar sounds are constantly remixed. What do we hear when we cannot see how a sound is created? And how does our hearing change when the origin of a sound can no longer be clearly determined? The ensemble takes precisely this uncertainty as the starting point for a concert that sets perception, expectation and sonic imagination in motion. At their concert as part of Young Euro Classic, the musician Stellan Veloce is supporting the ensemble. Their music is characterised by the warm tones of the cello combined with electronic elements. The five musicians improvise together, working with sounds in the moment, giving each performance a genuinely new timbre.
Aixa Torres is a composer and sound designer specialising in video games and multimedia. Born and raised in Puerto Madryn in the Chubut province of Argentina, she developed an interest in music at an early age, playing instruments and singing in choirs until the age of 17. Currently 26 years old, she is studying for a degree in electroacoustic music composition at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes in Buenos Aires. She has also performed with the university’s Electroacoustic Ensemble and holds a degree in music for video games. She participates regularly in multiple indie video game development projects and is involved in various Argentinian game development communities, such as Audio para Videojuegos Argentina, organising and managing events and participating as a speaker.
Hernán Perez is a guitarist, composer and music producer born in Buenos Aires in 1996. He completed ORT's music and sound production technical degree in 2016, before starting his electroacoustic music composition studies at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA) in 2019, where he studied with Pablo Freiberg and Guillermo Pozzati. Throughout his career, Hernán Perez has participated in the UNA's Electroacoustic Music Ensemble as a performer, composer, and virtual instrument luthier. He has performed at electroacoustic music festivals as a composer such as Espacios Sonoros in Salta, Argentina (2024) and Mixta in Buenos Aires (2025). Over the course of his career, Hernán Perez worked as a sound engineer and composer for films such as El Remanso (2024) and El alma del muerto (2023). He is currently working on his thesis to obtain his bachelor's degree from UNA while studying for a degree in music education at the same university.
Matías Niebur was born in Bella Vista, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began studying music theory and piano at the age of 13 with Beba Cassein, María Teresa Rosato and Jorge Bergaglio. After pursuing a degree in musical composition at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA) and studying composition with Guillermo Pozzati and Pablo Freiberg, he obtained a degree in electroacoustic music composition. He is currently the musical director of the Ensamble Electroacústico at UNA, which specialises in performing live electroacoustic music. Furthermore, he teaches musical acoustics and aural training. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in sound art at UNQUI (Quilmes University), focusing on algorithmic music and music programming. As a composer, he favours projects that blend computing, electronics, sound design and traditional approaches, working on film and theatre music and in live improvisation ensembles.
Manuel Pérez Vizán began his musical journey at an early age, graduating as a nationally certified music teacher from the Juan Pedro Esnaola Music School. He is currently studying electroacoustic composition at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA). Pursuing his interest in technical arts and performance, he completed a diploma in stage technology, exploring the intersection of music and the stage. As an electroacoustic composer and teacher, he works with digital creation, audiovisual production, lighting, installations, and cultural management. He is the founder and producer of Divagario, a multidisciplinary production company. Working alongside various artists as a music director, he creates sound designs, original music for theatre, film, and audiovisual media, as well as VJ mapping. These collaborative projects have been presented and performed in numerous venues across Argentina and Uruguay.
Stellan Veloce is a cellist and composer based in Berlin. They studied cello at the Cagliari Conservatoire and composition at the Berlin University of the Arts and the California Institute of the Arts.
Their music focuses on exploring timbres, iterations and modulations of sonic textures, as well as integrating composition with improvisation and collective practices.
Veloce composes music for ensembles and dance performances, favouring collective working practices. They collaborate regularly with choreographer Sheena McGrandles, composer Neo Hülcker and filmmaker Silvia Maggi. Occasionally, they work on stage or in the studio in the field of pop music (Kenichi & the Sun, Dear Reader, Peaches, etc.).
Veloce’s works have been performed at the London Contemporary Music Festival (UK), Rainy Days Festival (LUX), Klang Festival (DK), Heroins of Sound (DE), Hebbel am Ufer Theatre (DE), Neues Musik Festival Rümlingen (CH), Dark Music Days (IS), Inact Festival (FR), BAM! Berliner Festival für aktuelles Musiktheater (DE) and others.
