Blockbox is a songwriting crew from Berlin creating music with children and teenagers – in all kinds of places. The project Blockbox is also a mobile studio concept of the Hans Werner Henze Music School in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: three large flight cases packed full of drums, guitars, synths and more – all cabled up and ready for instant recording. No matter whether a songwriting session, a band rehearsal or a mini concert: Blockbox brings the studio. The team makes the rounds of schools, workshops and institutions dedicated to commemorating history, making access to music-making easy and accessible. There’s further info available on blockbox.info, as well as plenty of moving tracks by young talents from Marzahn-Hellersdorf and beyond. Live, there’s no shortage of excitement either: on stage, there’s improvisation, experimentation and performance – the audience shapes the sound. Hear ideas turn into beats, or one voice into a whole chorus. The best thing: everyone can join this way of instantly transforming the present moment in music.
