In this concert, the MOHIRON ensemble juxtaposes traditional and contemporary Tajik melodies with works by international composers such as Antonio Vivaldi and Zequinha de Abreu, all performed on traditional instruments from Tajikistan. This is Central Asian cultural heritage in a dynamic dialogue with contemporary forms of expression; the concert at FUTURE NOW will also feature original compositions by ensemble members Idibek Toshev and Jovidon Hasanov.
The ensemble specialises in traditional Tajik national instruments: the programme features instruments such as the bowl-necked lutes rubab and dumra, the flute-like sounds of the ney, and the plucked lute gijak. The ensemble’s ambition is reflected in its name – “Mohiron” means “to play with excellence and talent”.
Idibek Toshev (b. 2002) studied at the Department of National Instruments at the Tajik National Conservatory from 2020 to 2024. His interest in music emerged at an early age, leading him to enrol at the Republican Specialised Boarding School of Arts at the age of seven, where he completed his studies in 2019. A laureate of national and international competitions, he has composed the pieces Sarchashma, Khusnoro and Jilva, which will be performed at this concert of FUTURE NOW Musical Diaries.
Idibek Toshev has performed at the Days of Tajik Culture in China, Pakistan, the United States of America, and Qatar. He appeared at the festivals FUTURE NOW – Central Asia in Berlin in 2024 and at the Expo 2025 in Osaka. In 2026, he was named a “Distinguished Cultural Worker of the Republic of Tajikistan”.

He has participated in numerous national and international competitions, performing in countries including Uzbekistan, Germany, Japan, China, Pakistan, and Qatar.
The piece Kuhistoni performed at the FUTURE NOW concert was composed by him. His artistic development reflects a strong musical lineage, partly shaped by the legacy of his grandfather, the renowned Tajik singer Fayzali Hasanov, a “People’s Artist of Tajikistan”.
