What does it sound like when innovation meets tradition? Five ensembles from Bolivia, Indonesia, India, The Gambia and the Sápmi region combine the traditional practices of their musical cultures with modern sounds. Electric guitar meets indigenous Joik chanting, traditional instruments bring the Andes to life, rhythm takes on a new meaning with South Indian vocal percussion... At the festival within the festival, you will experience what music means outside of European orchestral culture - and how musical futures are being shaped in the present!

For the five concerts as part of ‘Future Now - Tomorrow's Traditions Today’, you have the option of buying tickets for the individual concerts or a festival pass for three concerts of your choice, or for all five concerts. If you buy a festival pass, you receive a discount of more than 20%.

The traditional Joik singing form of the indigenous Sámen in northern Fennoscandia is combined by the sápmi duo with the modern sounds of electric guitar and synthesiser. The concert takes place at the Werner-Otto-Hall.

Gamelan Degung with a modern twist! With contemporary and traditional compositions, the Simpay Panaratas ensemble from West Java fills the Werner-Otto-Hall with the dreamy sounds of traditional instruments from the Indonesian islands.
Here comes rhythm! The internationally celebrated percussionist Karthik Mani presents a unique musical experience of rhythm, energy and tradition together with four young talents from the South Indian Karnataka College of Percussion. The concert will take place in the Werner-Otto-Hall.
