Young Euro Classic – Tomorrow's Musicians Today
’Tomorrow’s musicians today’ is the motto of the festival Young Euro Classic in Berlin, offering a weekslong parade of international youth orchestras. Indeed: where young people play incendiary concerts in large groups on stage, the future of orchestral culture seems assured. And many in Berlin are interested in this; the main hall of the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt reports sold-out, even overflowing events. They are fascinating, these young musicians from all over Europe and beyond.
What is Young Euro Classic?
For many of the highly talented young musicians participating, performing at the Young Euro Classic festival is one of the most impressive events in the young careers so far. The international performers aged 12 to 28 appreciate the communal feeling, the special festival atmosphere and the enthusiastic Berlin audience. Every summer, Young Euro Classic brings approximately 25,000 people to the Konzerthaus – a dream rate of 95% of seats filled.
The festival was founded more than 25 years ago, aiming to offer young orchestral players all over the world a platform highlighting the European classical music tradition. Over the decades, the typical programming – featuring world premieres, compositions from the orchestras’ homelands and symphonic works of the 19th and 20th centuries – has become a tradition itself.
The festival’s message is the same as it was on Day 1: transcending borders and bringing people together, making music under the banner of exchange and peaceful cooperation – in Berlin and worldwide.
Young Euro Classic initiates the founding of new orchestras and fosters and nourishes existing initiatives – together with musicians, supporters, civic society, the government and numerous sponsors.
